AbstractEach writer´s diary being also a private journal shows affinities with the autobiography and the essay. But in another sense, it is situated in a more ambiguous light than these two in relation to their publication, because it simulates to establish a conversation with the person who writes it. The Argentine Diary by Gombrowicz can be compared with Bioy Casares´s refracted diary (under the title of Borges), because both texts deal in a great measure with the same literary field and take parties for poetics that have a life of their own in the same time without colliding. Written in Polish and selected by his author from the totality of his diaries, the Argentine Diary was published in 1968. In it Gombrowicz proposes the principle of cult of youth and immaturity (the “philiatry”), by which a mentor courtesies the friendship of a younger man who has a promising future, something that the couple Borges-Bioy Casares experienced in their relationship of four decades under the figure of Master and Disciple. Last but not least, the process of subjectivity that Gombrowicz´s text exhibits becomes the main reading issue and its best condition as a piece of literature. ER -
