Reflexiones sobre la guerra civil. Seditio en Ardea (Ab urbe condita 4.9-10)

Resumen

El relato de la seditio de Ardea es una reflexión sobre lo destructivo que puede llegar a ser para una comunidad un conflicto interno. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar dicho episodio a fin ver cómo construye Tito Livio la guerra civil en una sociedad que no encarna las virtudes romanas. La hipótesis que guía esta investigación es que la construcción de este episodio le posibilita al autor contraponer la situación que había presentado acerca de los patricios y plebeyos en Roma al comienzo del libro IV y, por ese medio, resaltar las virtudes romanas de moderatio y modestia. Abstract  The story of the seditio of Ardea is an example of the destructive consequences that an internal conflict could carry for a community. The aim of this essay is to analyze this episode to see how Livy constructs the civil war in a society that does not embody the Roman virtues. The hypothesis that underlies this research is that the construction of this episode enables the author to contrast the situation that he had already presented at the beginning of book IV about the conflicts between patricians and plebeians in Rome, and by this means, to highlight the Roman virtues of moderatio and modestia.
