Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the Antigone‘s Parodos as a paean in honour of the divinities who collaborated with the Theban victory. But this hymn subverts gender’s norms, since the images employed show that the chorus doesn’t sing a victory’ s paean but a apotropaic, suggesting that the dangers are stalking the city. The chorus invokes gods revered in both Athens and Thebes, and this hymn is linked to the context of the tragic ritual performance, as it would allow the audience as much as praise the gods and think about the proper relationship to be maintained with them.
