Las apropiaciones territoriales prehispánicas en Cafayate (Salta)
Abstract
The Department of Cafayate (Salta) is characterized by different evidences of human occupation from the Formative period. This paper analyses the protection strategies and the use of the symbolic and natural resources implemented by pre-Hispanic populations. In order to estimate the territory of exploitation, geographical variables, natural resources, archaeological materials were integrated in the analysis. This was complemented with the study of the position of rock art in the environment (visibility) to evaluate its role as a graphic marker. Villages, rock art, graves and fields have been recorded in a total of 28 archaeological sites. As a result, it is estimated that the appropriation of territory took place in a material and symbolic way.The site model proposed includes areas of exploitation, local natural resources, human occupation, circuits of interaction and transmission of messages.Downloads
