Abstract

Through the diverse and little known documentation of David Peña’s (1862-1930) personal archives, this paper seeks to shed new light on his book Juan Facundo Quiroga (1906). For this purpose, it seeks to link this work –one of the first in Argentina which wanted to initiate the historical reappraisal of the caudillos-, with the personal letters and several author’s manuscripts, as well as other publications from the same period, in order to move ahead in building a history of historiography not only concerned about a work’s internal analysis, but also particularly attentive to its contexts of production, links and influences between historians, and the expected or achieved public reception of their work.
