Changes in land acquisition and ownership in a specific area of the Argentinean Pampa in the late XIX Century
Abstract
This article analyzes land acquisition and ownership changes brought about by the 1890 crisis and the onset of the agrarian colonization. These changes were identified by assessing the number of transactions made, the size of the areas purchased and the prices paid. The main conclusions drawn from this analysis show the effects of the lack of access to loan on land demand, the emergence of land-owning settlers and their participation in the land market, and the long-term behavior of land prices.Downloads
