Sobre desigualdades y diferencias

Abstract

Feminist social thought devotes much attention to the link between gender inequalities (subordination, demands for equality and emancipation, etcetera) and other social inequalities (class, ethnic and racial, of nationalities and ages, with all their power hierarchies). From the perspective of the history of ideas, this article traces theoretical contributions to the analysis of the relations between social classes and gender in capitalist development, presenting the analytical models of Heleieth Saffioti and Isabel Larguía and John Dumoulin on the link between gender and class inequalities. These models were developed the nineteen sixties and seventies. To present these ideas in the context of contemporary debates is an exercise in personal memory and an attempt to convey ideas and protagonists that have been silenced and perhaps even forgotten in current thinking. In particular, the notion of intersectionality, often presented as a great contemporary novelty, gains new meaning when these pioneer analysts are brought back into the center of debate.
