Abstract

Nevado de Acay in Puna of Salta is a complex archaeological site for its multicomponent nature and the extensive body of documents dealing with mining operations carried out during colonial times. Althoughmuch of these information is published some documents, such as Minas que tiene esta Provincia que algunas se cree trabajaron los Yndios Ynfieles, y a las demas los Españoles Conquistadores de ellawritten by Filiberto of Mena in 1791, remain unpublished and offer relevant information in terms of its archaeological location. Here we offer the paleographic transcription of the document and we discussits value for both the archaeological study of Nevado de Acay and in relation to the existing bibliography. We also present the identification of a mining site in the source of the Calchaquí River on the southernslopes of Nevado de Acay and partial plans of the sites.
