Abstract

The paper analyses the changes in the settlement of the town and suburbs of Santa Maria Magdalena -province of Buenos Aires-, in the period 1820-1870, based in maps and other related documents. The graphical representation provides elements about the process of territorial organization and the relationship with political and social situations; moreover the power relations that materialized in specific historical circumstances are also studied. Thus, the social construction of space, supported on ideas about modern territorial order of a State under construction, is related to the particularities of the local context.
