Diagnosis of the situation of Brazilian cities regarding the SDG 11.2 accomplishment
Abstract
Urban mobility is one of the major concerns for the quality of life of the urban population. Few studies focused on evaluating the current conditions of accessibility and safety in transport in Brazilian municipalities. This study carried out a diagnosis of the current situation of Brazilian municipalities regarding meeting the goal proposed by the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11.2, which deals with the accessibility of transport systems in a sustainable, safe way. Data from questionnaires from official and public domain sources and a sample of 64 municipalities. The method included qualitative analyses, descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis techniques. Of the total municipalities studied, 45.3% are in the Southeast region, 20.3% in the Northeast region, 18.7% in the South region, 9% in the Midwest region, and 6.2% in the North region. It was identified six sets of information for the questionnaires, referring to Legislation, Accessibility, Participatory Policy, Infrastructure, Bus fare, and Vehicles. The study highlights the need for improvement of existing surveys for assessing SDG targets and actions with the municipalities to improve reported information. Urban observatories need to be developed for data dissemination and information sharing.Downloads
