Abstract

This article proposes a global interpretation of the history of colonial Latin America that takes into account other geographical regions and the transoceanic exchange that existed in the Spanish colonial system. One of the objectives of my work is to try to overcome the barriers that separate the analysis of the colonial experiences in Africa, America, and Asia, a tendency that until now has predominated in studies on Colonial Latin America. The Spanish empire was global both in its extension and in its scope due to a network that opened channels of contact, exchange and communication between four continents. A global approach to the study of the Spanish empire generates the emergence of a new area of research that can contribute to the development of a global history of colonialism and imperialism in the Hispanic world.
