Abstract

The present paper is part of my line of work on the history of Argentine Anthropology, based on my reflections put forward over thirty years ago and further developed since 1990. This paper discusses an aspect of the configuration of Argentine Sociocultural Anthropology in our own region. The creation of the Institute of Anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the National University at the Litoral generates — under the direction of Alberto Rex González, PhD— the formation of research teams in the field of Archaeology in the North West of Argentina, and the reform of syllables in History studies to include an orientation in Anthropology. Both these aspects make up the basis of the formation of a scientific community which has evolved into a process of profesionalization of the Social Sciences an particularly of Anthropology, not only in Argentina but also in the whole of Latin America. We discuss: The relationship between the national and the local context: the approaches existing in the two socio-anthropological research programs supported by the Institute, the characteristics of academic education, and the consequences of the military coup in our community and its results at universitary level.
