Abstract

The impossibility to construct a speech, an idea or a dream which is solid, tangible and with an elevate spirit in the postmodern context is the perspective from which two Mexican contemporary texts are analyzed. These plays are Las tremendas aventuras de la capitana Gazpacho (1996), by Gerardo Mancebo, and Clipperton, by David Olguín (2004). The essay focuses on the general perspective of the utopia through topics like: the utopian chronotope, the essence of Mexican utopias, and the dystopias. In the postmodern space, the antithesis utopia-dystopia expresses the fragility of the beauty of the spirit when faced with ambition and corruption, with the absence of guidance patterns and with the identity of the individual.
