Abstract

This article attempts to contribute with the new ways of doing/thinking contemporary dance, identifying particularly some of the research conducted from 1980, which had a great repercussion worldwide and also in Brazil. These new theories made possible studies that were denying the conception of the body as a product or universal instrument. In the case of Latin America, such theories were imported, to a great extent, from Europe and the United States. Nonetheless, as it occurs with any displacement, they also involve processes of translation, which reinvented the original proposals from the local needs, generating unexpected formulations.
