Culturas teatrales en Canadá: el Magnetic North Theatre Festival 2015

Abstract

This article analyses the 2015 edition of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, as an example of the theatrical cultures in Canada. The main productions challenge the conventional forms of theatre: Needles and Opium by Robert Lepage, where the usual function played by the space in audience’s perception is transformed; What happened to the seeker? by Nadia Ross, which presents an original dramatic line and a variety of resources that challenge theatre’s conventional unity; Global Savages by the aboriginal Canadian company Debajehmujig, production built on a model which is different from the European model of theatre. This article also analyses the following productions: Re:Union, a production of political theatre; Up to Low, a production based on a local story, and Small stage Canada, an original cabaret production. All together, these productions present some of the most important tendencies and the different theatrical cultures of Canadian theatre today.
