Theatre in Times of the Pandemic. Interview with the Mexican Production Company "Tercera Llamada"

Abstract

This interview, conducted in July 2020 with the Mexican theatre company Tercera Llamada, collects the testimonies of Ana Bracho, producer and founding partner, and Quetzalli Cortés, actor and director, regarding the company’s #LiveOnlineNow virtual theatre project. This format of staging live theatre through the Zoom platform was implemented by the company in early April 2020 as a response to the social confinement measures that suspended face-to-face performances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The conversation focuses on the motivations, processes and experiences involved in this practice, the differences in its implementation and reception in comparison to traditional theatre performances, and the current and future challenges in the sector.

Author Biographies

Regina Solis Miranda, University of Sheffield
Regina Solis Miranda is a Guatemalan anthropologist deeply interested in identity negotiations through cultural artefacts.  She holds an MA in Literature from the Crossways in Cultural Narratives programme. Her current research is aimed at exploring how latinidades are portrayed in music.
Fernando Nahuel Valcheff García, Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata
Fernando Valcheff García es Profesor en Letras  por la Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMdP), Argentina. Forma parte del Centro de Letras Hispanoamericanas (CeLeHis, UNMdP), donde se ha desempeñado como docente e investigador desde el año 2014, enfocándose en la obra de la poeta Amelia Biagioni. En la actualidad se encuentra realizando el Máster Mundus Crossways in Cultural Narratives (University of St. Andrews - Universidade de Santiago de Compostela – Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) financiado por el programa de becas de Erasmus +. Su proyecto de tesis analiza, desde la perspectiva de los estudios intermediales comparados, la relación entre literatura, artes (audio)visuales y tecnologías digitales en un corpus de obras artísticas que recuperan vida y obra de Vincent van Gogh.
Sara Hermo Nieto, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela
Sara Hermo se graduó en Historia por la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, institución en la que actualmente se encuentra finalizando un Master en Literatura y Cultura. Ha trabajado en compañías de teatro profesionales y amateur, recibiendo premios a nivel regional (Galicia) por su labor. Su investigación actual se enfoca en la remediación de obras literarias de ficción del siglo XXI.
