Abstract

Based on the agreement that artists generally embody in their works aspects from the world that surrounds them and are influenced by the ambience they are in, and considering also that the situations they experience are a source of inspiration for their creative pursuit, this essays focuses on the play El combate del establo (1985), by the Uruguayan playwright Mauricio Rosencof, who played an important political role in the Communist Party of Uruguay and afterwards in the Tupamaros National Liberation Movement, until his imprisonment in 1972. El combate del establo allows us to weave the different circles of our work at the same time as it manages to discover the dialectic relations between the text-play and the reality, both of the historical context that Uruguay went through during the years of dictatorship and of the author’s personal experiences in his journey as hostage of that dictatorship.
