Abstract

This article approaches the institutional differentiation in Campana city, province of Buenos Aires, considering the framework of the compulsory secondary education. Considering this subject, the article refers to the educative situation of the city: there has been an increase in the amount of students in the secondary level, but there are issues regarding the permanence of the students, specially during the fourth year, which is a key moment in the educative trajectory. The article also analyzes the ways how primary, basic cycles and higher cycles are connected with the aim of acknowledging if the educative trajectory is guaranteed for the students. Finally, the text presents a typology of secondary schools constructed by considering their geographic location, the material and human resources available and also the existence of selection mechanisms. The article seeks to understand the way how these institutional types might have impact on the access, permanence and ending of secondary schoolling.
