Abstract

This essay focuses on Stanislavski's System from a psychoanalytic perspective. Although it concentrates on Stanislavski's early memories of his childhood, as they are told in My Life in Art, this essay also discusses other texts by the Russian master. This contribution is a preliminary approach to the theoretical background of Stanislavski's technique or System; from a Lacanian point of view, the author discusses -but never applies- psychoanalytical concepts -transference, symbolic/imaginary/real registers, repetition, invoking drive- in order to explore how these early memories are theoretically related to what Stanislavski will later develop as his System.
