Abstract

In this work, technical-morphological and functional-morphological variability in projectile points recovered from archaeological sites related to hunter-gatherer transition into agropastoralist societies in Antofagasta de la Sierra (Argentinean Puna) are analyzed. Further, the occurrence of differences and similarities in projectile points from Punta de la Peña 4, Peñas Chicas 1.3 and Peñas Chicas 1.1 sites -ca.4200-3400 years BP on one hand and Casa Chávez Montículos 1 and Casa Chávez Montículos 2 -ca.2200-1400 years BP- on another hand, are visualized. Finally, it is considered that the ancestors of agro-pastoralists projectile points are some designs identified in older local sites.
